Flying through tree canopies at hundreds of metres above the ground on a hot Thai summer’s day is not everybody’s cup of tea, but if it is something that you are considering then you are bound to have an amazing time out there, high above the canopy, flying free like a tropical bird.
Booking was easy, with just a click of a button on Tripzii, then I was set up ready to go. The morning came and a minibus took me out up some tight mountain roads to their base camp.
Pictures and videos cant do it justice. After suiting up, checking the karabiners and being instructed on how to stay safe up in the treetops we were ready to go.
The JF2 Package Extreme sees you cross the canopy via 34 platforms, with 22 ziplines criss crossing the canopy of Chiang Mai’s mountains. The longest zipline to expect is a whopping 1,000m long, offering amazing views and a burst of adrenaline as you zip from one mountain top to the other. You also get to do one abseil, traverse three sky bridges and also scramble across a precarious net if you dare. Climb a spiral staircase and take in the views before heading down for lunch.
Despite my concerns about the zipline industry, Jungle Flight and their staff were very professional and ever aware of all clients’ safety. They were on hand, diligent and gave clear and concise instructions while keeping the mood exciting and fun. Zip after zip, line after line, I felt more relaxed and safe in the hands of our instructors.
I highly recommend this trip for anyone looking for a safe yet thrilling adventure strapped to a wire high above the jungle floor. If you are afraid of heights, think of it as a chance to overcome that fear, I know I did…well somewhat at least.
